Mobile Overdose Prevention Site (MOPS)

The Mobile Overdose Prevention Site (MOPS) is a place where people can access information on harm reduction, get referrals and can use drugs in a safe, warm space where they are supervised by staff who are trained in overdose response.

MOPS is Manitoba’s first sanctioned supervised consumption site. Since October 2022, it has been open 5 days a week, providing supervised injection and supervised inhalation (smoking) services.

Right now, MOPS operates out of a converted ambulance which is parked Wednesday-Sunday afternoons in the lot beside 631 Main Street. MOPS is mobile Thursdays through Saturdays until 9:30 PM. Call directly for more information at 204-914-8221.

In 2024, an independent review was published of MOPS’s first year of operation. You can read it here.

MOPS Peers

Peer is a term used to describe a person who has lived or living experience of drug use. Peers are essential in harm reduction work because they are experts in keeping people who use drugs well and alive!

Peers are the backbone of MOPS. They are paid to work as program guides at the site, doing everything from keeping the area clean and tidy, mediating and de-escalating conflicts that arise, and teaching participants about safer drug-use practices. MOPS Peers and their competencies are what make it an approachable and comfortable environment that is created by people who use drugs, for people who use drugs.
